Throughout the first quarter students will explore the experiences of the people of Southern Sudan during and after the Second Sudanese Civil War via the novel, A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. They will build proficiency in using textual evidence to support ideas in their writing, both in shorter responses and in an extended essay.

Social Studies
This course engages students in deep historical thinking about the change, continuity, and causality of the historic, economic, political, and cultural institutions of Hawaii. This course focuses on the monarchy era and critically examines the people and events of that era through multiple perspectives and historical empathy. Throughout the year students will focus on the building their response to the question: How can we learn from the past to prepare for a changing future? |
